What is TML? : Through a Mother's Lens is an attempt to assemble credible, unbiased perspectives on some of the polarizing issues of our time, including (but not limited to) relationships between civilians and law enforcement. These perspectives are categorized through Subject Matter "Lenses", each of which includes multiple "Snapshots". We intend on continually growing this repository for all of our benefit and have created a private discussion group where members can add articles and videos, offer feedback and share perspectives. 

 

Why TML? : In this day and age we are constantly barraged by endless streams of soundbites from sources who convey narratives born out of their own self-interest. We simply seek to offer a platform to responsibly introduce and/or address topics affecting youth in a manner they're more likely to embrace. In doing so, the intent is to shift the focus back to the causes behind the issues affecting our communities, thereby educating our youth more completely - with less emotional exhaustion.

 

O U R  M I N D S  M A T T E R

 

Viewer : You're  in HS. Only Child. Living only with your parent(s)/guardian(s), who are sleeping.

 

Setting : At home during the weekend. For one reason or another, you're grounded. 

 

Action : You come across a soundbite while looking at social media. You're soooo tired of Politics! Why is this even here (you think to yourself)? It's definitely getting some views though, while not as many as you would expect (a passing thought you have only after having viewed the video). You see that people you know have reacted and it's only about 2 minutes so you decide to watch it and read the comments. Ugh! They're all over the place, a lot of back & forth and absolutely no consensus. That said, it's something you never really gave much thought to so when you see that similar videos are trending, you end up binging. &The parental block doesn't filter this type of content so it must be ok to watch, right?

 

Take Aways : You don't know the answer, and no one else seems to really know either. Getting sleepy...

 

Follow-Up : In the cafeteria the following week, students are talking about it and a lot of them actually agree! They notice that you're curiously quiet and ask you what you think. Now Everyone's Watching...
